Project Description

Power Logistics was incredibly proud to deliver site, show and broadcast power to HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations across the long weekend of 2nd – 5th June 2022. Its experienced team spent several weeks on-site at Buckingham Palace, The Mall, Embankment and various Royal Parks installing generators, battery energy storage systems, cabling and distribution equipment, along with tower lights to ensure an uninterrupted power supply throughout. Sustainability was at the forefront of the project.

As the exclusive power provider for Trooping the Colour, Platinum Party at the Palace and the Jubilee Pageant, Power Logistics’ experienced project management team devised and implemented a comprehensive plan for the delivery of a sustainable electrical solution for the celebratory weekend of events. As there were numerous stakeholders across several events, project managers were assigned to different areas.

As you would expect for a project of this scale, the temporary power provision necessitated several generator farms in key positions for a wide range of requirements.  These included: the main stage with generators situated on Buckingham Palace’s forecourt, the broadcast and production compounds, site utilities, lighting, sound, media, the Royal Box, control room and LED screens along The Mall. Site lighting included multiple LED towerlights, hundreds of metres of LED festoon, house and emergency lighting, along with LED illuminated signage.

Given the focus on sustainability all generators and towerlights were run on sustainably sourced Green D+ HVO fuel. Smaller generators were deployed using load demand wherever possible. Despite it be a one-off special event, energy usage was monitored in all areas allowing for effective reporting, learning and fuel efficiencies during the project. For example, where we installed small hybrid solar powered sets for security and crew areas we were able to assess from the monitoring that this was the best solution which will be useful intel for future events.

A unique solution was implemented for the Jubilee Pageant, whereby a battery packs were installed on each bus and lorry to power their PA systems. These were recharged used two small generators ran on sustainably sourced Green D+ HVO. The dressing rooms along the embankment and vehicle searching areas on the South Bank were connected directly to the National Grid. All energy usage was monitored across the event back with all data fed back to A Greener Festival who were employed by the Jubilee Pageant team to ensure it was as sustainable as possible.

Also playing a starring role across the weekend was a large quantity of Power Logistics’ ADA compliant cable ramp. Not only was it clearly visible on TV screens when the procession of carriages left Buckingham Palace for Trooping the Colour but also took centre stage in OK magazine’s feature covering the event. It also played an important part in the Gold State Coach section of the Platinum Jubilee Pageant, this was where the Queen’s Coronation was re-enacted and footage of her majesty was shown on an LED screen situated within the carriage. Power Logistics delivered cable ramp to the Royal Mews to allow for rehearsals in the run up to the event, as well as on the day itself.

Millions of viewers around the globe enjoyed the television coverage of the events to huge acclaim!
