Showcasing cleaner energy solutions at Clean Power Pilot Battery Demo Open Day
Power Logistics supported the Clean Power Pilot Battery Demo Open Day held at The Bottle Yard Studios on 16th July. The event showcased how battery technology and improved access to grid power can reduce reliance on diesel generators across events, film and TV production.
The event provided an opportunity for visitors to learn more about the West of England Clean Power Pilot, an initiative designed to reduce pollution and deliver cleaner air for those attending, working at, performing at or living near events taking place across the region this summer.
Power Logistics’ solutions engineer, Archie Parker, who is overseeing the Clean Power Hub as part of the pilot, delivered four demonstrations throughout the day.
The sessions explored how battery energy storage systems operate, shared examples of the technology being used in live environments and outlined Power Logistics’ work alongside Act_1.5, the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, Bristol City Council and The Bottle Yard Studios.
Power Logistics’ role within the pilot is to facilitate the use of battery-powered solutions wherever operationally possible, helping productions and events reduce emissions without compromising the resilience of their temporary power supply.
The technology available through the hub is already supporting projects beyond The Bottle Yard Studios. On the morning of the open day, two battery units had been deployed to Bristol Harbour Festival, while two Instagrid portable power systems had recently supported the Birdman event, removing the need for a 20kVA generator.
Visitors were also introduced to the newly installed grid connection at the Clean Power Hub. Several productions based at The Bottle Yard Studios are already making use of the supply, providing a lower-emission alternative to conventional temporary generation.
During the demonstrations, attendees were able to see battery systems powering unit base trailers in a practical production environment. The event also brought together exhibitors providing a range of sustainable solutions for the Film and TV sector.
The open day demonstrated how collaboration, investment in infrastructure and utilising battery technology can provide practical alternatives to diesel generators and support the transition towards cleaner power for events and productions.
