Life as a Trainee Event Power Electrician
Here our Trainee Event Power Electrician Becca Childerhouse gives us an insight into her role with Power Logistics, including the training she’s received and some of the iconic events that she’s worked on.
In the two years I’ve been at Power Logistics I have had the opportunity to work on a range of events. Some of my highlights have been festivals and live music, such as Radio 1 Big Weekend, Creamfields and stadium shows.
I have also been involved in the sporting events we power, working on horse racing events across the country- and getting the opportunity to travel to the Middle East to provide power for the E1 boat racing series!
I have also enjoyed working on the corporate events including the recent VE Day 80 concert at Royal Horse Guards.
As a Trainee Event Power Electrician I’m working towards achieving an NVQ qualification and I am about to sit exams for my Level 3 electrical course. I’ve also undertook training with James Eade for BS7909 Certification in temporary electric installations.
The most valuable skills for being on site have been willingness to work in a team, not being scared of a hard day’s work and being open to learning from the people you work with.
There are so many opportunities to learn new skills and knowledge from the colleagues I work with, many of them have been doing this for decades and have such a deep understanding and want to pass their expertise on to the next generation.
I have also really enjoyed the chance to network and make connections with other people on site. This can also help with the client relations as it makes our job much easier when you can get on with the people you are working with for weeks at a time!
Here are my three highlights from my time at Power Logistics (so far!)
1, Climbing in the roof of the Principality stadium to power a ring delay and then getting to see thousands of people enjoying the work that went into it when the gig went live!
2, Watching the New Year’s Eve fireworks at the London Eye, knowing the long hours and early starts were worth it, as we helped deliver a show people all over the country got to enjoy.
3, Meeting some brilliant people who are complete experts in their trades. I have made some great friendships and working alongside a crew you get on with is the best way to get through the stresses and long hours.
